Julia Guerrero: Guernica
Guernica
by Julia Guerrero

Artist Julia Guerrero will invite the general public to join her in creating a painting inspired by Picasso’s "Guernica" on Sunday September 2, 2012, from 8am to 8pm, next to the old Roman market in Plaka, Athens.

Picasso’s Guernica is synonymous of the horrors committed during the Spanish Civil War.  In a similar way, the artist will express the sentiments that this piece elicits, as they reveal potent symbols where fantasy shows a new way of viewing historical facts .  She will open spaces within the pictorial field where war figures own their internal gaze, spaces where the souls create a door to the past; while mined with colorful representation, allowing the forms to offer an air of hope.

With the dynamism of the shapes, the horse’s in the center, the Minotaur in the middle of the composition and the exaltation of the forms make Guernica a colossal piece about life and death.

When: Sunday, September 2nd, 2012

Where: Roman Agora
Metro: Monastiraki
