CAMP + SIERRA: COMIC ART COLLABO is an exhibit about two Bronx based artist friends, Gary Camp and Luis Sierra, and their love for sequential comic book art. The show will showcase their 30 year partnership featuring a series of published and unpublished powerful black & white images told through dynamic storytelling in a visual and literary pace; arranged in moving sequences. The pair reunites in the vampire novella, Mala Noche and their current collaboration. With this exhibition, Gary and Luis explore themes such as love & hate, solitude & vengeance.
Luis Sierra a self-taught cartoonist, who resides in the Bronx, best-unknown hire gun cartoonist in the industry. Luis attended the School of Visual Arts in New York in the mid 1980's. His sequential art and storytelling was nurtured by legendary Bronx artist Will Eisner, who was teaching at SVA at that time. Harvey Kurtzman one of the founders of Mad Magazine was another key influence in Luis' creative formation. Current projects include Little Miss Strange for Blakely Work Studio; Mala Noche and Bronx Age Triple Threat for Creative One Comics. In 2018 Luis partnered with contemporary artist Blanka Amezkua for a series of commanding drawings representing strong female characters which Blanka turned into large embroideries. The series of works was titled RE-KONZTRUKT: WOMEN AND TOOLS.
Gary Camp is a New York cartoonist and digital artist. He has over 20 years of experience in the comic book industry and has worked for many independent comic book companies. While he is best known as an indie publisher, Gary has frequently worked as a penciller and letterer. He studied illustration and computer art; his artwork is about heart and soul. Current professional projects include publishing, writing, and drawing; creating Mala Noche and Bronx Age Triple Threat for his own indie self-publishing company called Creative One Comics.
